Six - EP

Six - EP

Despite being just six songs and 29 minutes long, Six is less an EP than a deserving full and complete follow-up to Via. Nothing could make the experience better; certainly not more songs. For the circuitous nature of Thalia Zedek’s material isn't for the faint of heart, and packing more songs into a space just because she could isn't how artists like Zedek work. These six songs serve as a coherent sentence, telling us where she’s at in 2014. The strum and clang of “Fell So Hard” and the stripped-down and shockingly melodic and somber “Afloat” show two sides of the same persistent dreamer, who still carries elements of her old band Come with her. Zedek’s guitar work is key, and she brings a dynamic approach to “Julie Said” and the gorgeous, dreamlike “Midst.” Tucked in the middle of this is “Dreamalie,” a song that starts like a nursery rhyme before Zedek’s warm haze of guitars adds just the right comforting hum to support the melody.
