Recorded during the 1976 tour behind her comeback album, Smile, Laura Nyro’s first live collection injects her sublime pop and soul songwriting with a cool jazz vibe. “Money” rides along on supple piano, while “Smile” finds her declaring, “I’m a non-believer, but I believe in your smile” over chiming acoustic guitar and an undulating feel. She even remodels past hits with aplomb, threading a slinky rhythm and tinkling vibraphone through “And When I Die.”
