Editors’ Notes Using black metal as nihilistic cement to hold all sorts of other nasty styles together, Jef Whitehead takes his one-man project in a multitude of directions on this 2015 album. “The Smoke of Their Torment” and “Dawn Vibration” tear you limb from limb with death metal, but they’re linked by a biblical passage and punctuated by phantom screams. Droning doom, industrial noise, and avant-garde effects seep in elsewhere. Especially in the morose 10-minute title cut, the landscape shifts nonstop.
