Slayyyter’s sophomore album tells a tale as old as the Hollywood sign: Midwestern girl with showbiz dreams moves to Los Angeles to make it big, and sex, drugs, and rock ’n’ roll ensue. Just replace “rock ’n’ roll” with trashy-on-purpose electro-pop that celebrates the fembot fatale à la Blackout-era Britney or Charli XCX. Arriving on a cresting wave of renewed interest in 2000s party music, the singer channels visions of flip-phone-era loft raves on the Felix da Housecat-esque “Erotic Electronic,” and delivers the campy “I Love Hollywood!” in pitch-perfect Paris Hilton vocal fry. She commits to the bit on “Plastic,” a snarky ode to injectables, but occasionally softens the edges on tracks like “Girl Like Me,” pure pop euphoria with a beat that sounds like Daft Punk.
