Find My Way

Find My Way

Baton Rouge native Hd4president broke out with the viral dance hit “Can’t Stop Jiggin’,” an ode to his city’s signature movement, which earned him a major record deal. He’s over a decade older than local crooners like YoungBoy Never Broke Again, so he grew up idolizing the club bounce of Juvenile and Soulja Slim, and on his second full-length for Motown, Find My Way, he pays homage to that lineage with street and strip club anthems built around bass and 808s—not to mention a tribute to Slim, himself. (No Limit alum Kenoe shares production duties here, making the lineage explicit.) On Find My Way, uptempo debauchery coexists with ballads, both tragic and triumphant. Like Boosie Badazz and Kevin Gates before him, Hd wrenches stinging earworms from stories about courtrooms and street corners, as on the soaring title track. With his knack for melancholic melodies, the future of Louisiana blues is safe in Hd4president’s hands.
