Released during the final months of his Rikers Island sentence, Wayne’s eighth solo album draws swoon-worthy pop cues from his late-’00s melodic rap experiments (and from his ascendant Young Money labelmates). Wayne trades punchline-punctuated bars with Drake on the triumphant lead single “Right Above It”; the doo-wop love song “With You” combines their talents to even sweeter effect. Best of all is “I’m Single,” a wallowy breakup ballad with a screwed-down Noah “40” Shebib beat that gives extra gravity to Wayne’s syrupy sing-song.
