In choosing a song for Carols Covered—Apple Music’s collection of Christmas standards updated by contemporary artists—UK-based singer-songwriter Griff reached back to her spiritual roots. “I grew up in church,” she says. “So Christmas has always been about who Jesus is and singing carols. So as fun as all the other Christmas songs are, I think it's important to bring it back to what Christmas has always meant for me.” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” a song with origins dating back centuries, had Griff exploring a different type of song composition than she might otherwise. “I just decided to go full choir on it and just do 10 million harmonies. And try and keep it really stripped back, but also really beautiful. I think the melodies in these old traditional songs are so beautiful, and they're made to be sung by lots of people. So I didn't want to overcomplicate it too much.”
