Nightingale Floors (Deluxe Version)

Nightingale Floors (Deluxe Version)

Zach Rogue and his "band" Rogue Wave began as a casual project that bore fruit with 2003's Out of the Shadow. That Rogue had no master plan became immediately evident as collaborators came and went and the sound shifted so frequently that fans of one album weren't always fans of the next. Well, fans of the fourth album—2010's Permalight—will likely feel comforted by the sounds here, where Rogue and longtime associate Pat Spurgeon focus on the best and brightest elements of their sound and apply them to the kind of catchy songs that have frequently hooked Rogue Wave fans regardless of the production values. "College" shimmers with a timeless pop force. "Siren's Song" floats between the decades for a modern retro sound. "Without Pain" fires up an acoustic-based ballad. The deluxe version adds three bonus tracks, including a thoughtful cover of Screaming Trees' "Nearly Lost You."
