New Girl - EP

Toronto's GRAE doesn’t just sing about men behaving badly—she treats her songs like title fights, all dramatic entrances, killer-stare tension, and lyrics that land like uppercuts. On the New Girl EP’s namesake opener, she sets her crosshairs on a philandering boyfriend (who’s hooked up with “the one you told me not to worry about”) before sending him to the mat with stabs of strings and a ’90s-R&B kick, while “Woman’s World” shouts back at catcalling bros with a killer hook straight out of the Destiny’s Child empowerment anthem playbook. But GRAE reveals a more vulnerable side on the atmospheric ballad “Fade to Black,” an unflinching account of growing up with an alcoholic mother.
