The Good Life

The Good Life

A Christian rapper down with 116 Clique, Trip Lee hit the scene in the mid-'00s, signing to Reach Records and dropping solo albums like If They Only Knew, 20/20, and Between Two Worlds. On The Good Life (co-released with a book by the same name and said to be his last music for a while), he links with a gang of like-minded highly spiritual artists, including Lecrae, Sho Baraka, J.R., Jimmy Needham, KB, Suzy Rock, and Andy Mineo, rhyming about life, love, and his unwavering dedication to Jesus Christ. Production-wise, it's on par with most current rap music, loaded with big beats, pop-style hooks, moody electronics, and emotional, Kanye-influenced verses. Yet the lyrics are far more serious, addressing issues like abortion ("Beautiful Life") and the dangers of Satan ("Robot"). Though it's perhaps a bit heavyhanded for those not saved, there's a lot of quality music here, most notably "Know Me," "War," and "Good Thing."
