Blood Makes You Related, Loyalty Makes You Family - EP

Repping for Pomona, Calif., and pimp rappers everywhere, Suga Free hit the scene in the late '90s when he was brought into the game by West Coast producer extraordinaire DJ Quik. Suga Free's debut album, Street Gospel, is an undeniable classic, and in the years since he's stayed busy with a steady stream of increasingly indie projects, including Just Add Water, Smell My Finger, and Hi Power Pimpin. On Blood Makes You Related, Loyalty Makes You Family, he reconnects with Pimpin' Joe (the two joined forces for Thunder & Lightning last year), treating listeners to a five-song EP all about working these hoes and running game in the Golden State. While the subject matter is one-dimensional by nature, Suga Free's goofy charisma and unorthodox flow still sounds good, and two postmortem guest appearances by the late great Nate Dogg ("15 Minutes to 5" and "Barbiecoast") also impress.
