My Story: The Album

A reputation as an architect of good vibes doesn’t come easy. But SPINALL has honed it over the years, from humble beginnings as an unknown radio presenter cheering Lagos commuters to becoming the official DJ for Afrobeats superstar Wande Coal—and several other milestones beyond. His debut album, 2015’s My Story, opened the floodgates of an impressive oeuvre of five projects in six years. Songs like the evergreen hit “Gba Gbe E” with Burna Boy highlighted SPINALL’s ear for brilliant beats and dedication to orchestrating a good time. Also evident even then was a measure of his convening power in assembling some of the most in-form acts across Africa, such as Mafikizolo and Timaya. SPINALL (Oluseye Desmond Sodamola) continues to repeat that trick while igniting dance floors to action with his ability to spot and craft what he describes as “pure and authentic” sounds. But My Story is a reminder that the first chapter often offers direction on how the rest of the journey goes.
