Almost three decades after they collaborated on The Beach Boys’ ill-fated Smile, the dynamic duo reunited to create this sun-dappled slice of California baroque pop. Parks brings his rich poetic imagery to the sprightly “Sail Away” (“I leave my footprints on the sand by a reckless sea”) and woozy arrangements of glockenspiel, harmonica, and piano to the nostalgic “Summer In Monterey.” And Wilson is in his element, sprinkling pristine doo-wop harmonies over the title track and gleefully surfing the loping melody of “San Francisco.”
