Moebius & Tietchens

Moebius & Tietchens

Two German avant-garde electronic legends—solo artist Asmus Tietchens and Dieter Moebius of Kluster/Cluster and Harmonia—collaborate here for the first time in decades, fulfilling a promise made back in 1976 to work together. The result here is subtle and modern. It's not a nostalgic look back or a re-creation of their previous work, but a living, breathing experiment, with loops and ambient tones that settle into a vague minimalism. "Cremon" opens as an earwash, clearing the decks for the experiments to follow. "Kattrepel" is low-key but subtly driving. "Thorax" brings up shades of mutated Eurodisco and synth-pop gone underwater. "Yes, Yes" builds into a restless tonal surge. The 10-minute "Lange Reihe" spreads out with found sounds and a bizarre little waltz lurking underneath. "Grimm" adds shades of early industrial tones. The album is a welcome addition to the careers of two distinguished musicians who've played an influential role on alternative music throughout the years.
