Here, some of France’s finest singers serve up a delicious program of Mozart operatic bonbons. Punctuated by orchestral Mozart, played with charm by Laurence Equilbey’s stylish Insula Orchestra, this is magic Mozart indeed. Tenor Stanislas de Barbeyrac is wonderful as Tamino (exquisitely poised in the “Portrait” aria, “Dies Bildnis ist bezaubernd schön”) and baritone Florian Sempey is a terrific Papageno and Don Giovanni. Sandrine Piau makes a glorious and touching Figaro Countess while Lea Desandre is a perky Cherubino, and Jodie Devos sends sparks up in the sky as the Queen of the Night. The gorgeous Così fan tutte is a heavenly close to a lovely album.
