Música Buena Para Días Malos

Música Buena Para Días Malos

No small part of why Jay Wheeler stands out among the Latin R&B voices of his generation is his proficiency within and beyond genre lines. After expanding his range further on 2023’s hip-hop-adjacent TRAPPii, the arrival of Música Buena Para Días Malos reinforces his bona fides as a standout singer. Romantic reggaetoneros abound in the scene, but his pliant yet masculine tone suits the maximalist thump of “En Tu Mente” and “Otro Más.” Even still, his pop prowess continues to grow, evident on the oft beatless “Admítelo” and the downtrodden “Mi Todo.” The album’s back half basks in this quieter though no less emotional mode, spilling his feels out in English and in Spanish on “Save Me” and “Turbulencia.” As for the handful of collaborations, he moves to the urgency of synthwave alongside Mora on “Textos Fríos” and dips into duet mode with Venezuela’s Noreh on the broadly balladic “Maquillaje.”
