Early on in his career, Christian Nodal’s music drew comparisons with the songbook of the great Vicente Fernández. An obvious influence on the popular Sonoran singer, El Ídolo de México gets the cover treatment from the 24-year-old on México en Mi Voz. The five songs selected for this tribute are ones popularized, recorded, or otherwise notably performed by the legend during his lifetime, including the Martín Urieta-penned “Acá Entre Nos” and “Mujeres Divinas.” Nodal’s renditions of the profoundly poetic “La Ley del Monte” and succinctly sorrowful “Ya Lo Sé Que Tú Te Vas” should leave little doubt that his own artistry exists as part of the legacy of the now-departed Sr. Fernández.
