Loving You More…In the Spirit of Etta James

Loving You More…In the Spirit of Etta James

A fast-rising soul singer from California, Leela James has been impressing listeners and critics alike ever since she hit the scene. After working with a wide range of artists including Pete Rock, Ray Charles, and The Black Eyed Peas, she released her debut album, A Change Is Gonna Come, in 2005, showcasing her excellent voice and throwback-minded style. Her all-covers album Let's Do It Again dropped four years later, followed by the aptly titled My Soul, released on the legendary Memphis label Stax. On Loving You More..., she pays tribute to the one and only Etta James, re-imagining and reinventing 11 songs associated with the recently departed legend. "Something's Got a Hold on Me" sports a jump-up beat and space-age synths, while "It Hurts Me So Much" slyly references Dr. Dre's "Still D.R.E." and "Damn Your Eyes" has a distinct Prince influence. Other winners include "I'm Loving You More Every Day" and "I Want to Ta-Ta You Baby."
