Love and Forgiveness

Love and Forgiveness

Love and Forgiveness captures a positive spirit tempered by hard times and near-disasters. After recovering from a serious car accident, this Nashville-based singer/songwriter went into the studio with producer Mike Wrucke (Miranda Lambert, David Nail) to record an album harkening back to the ‘70s heyday of L.A. country-rock. Layered vocals, chiming guitars, and summery tempos give this album a breezy yet wistful feel, combining radio-friendly accessibility with heartfelt confession. Jaye’s songs (cowritten with such notables as Thad Cockrell and Sugarland’s Kristen Hall) recall the romantic sensibilities of Karla Bonoff, Jackson Browne, and similar Laurel Canyon troubadours. Tracks such as “Say Oh Say,” “Summer Rain," and “Every Time We Say Goodbye” shade their bright, ear-snagging choruses with hints of melancholy and yearning. The staggering, Levon Helm–like drums in “One Way Conversation” and the swooning pedal steel guitar in “Stars and Skies” are among the tasty sonic details here. Most importantly, Jaye’s supple vocals—warmly caressing with an aching edge—deliver these songs of gratitude and renewal with conviction.
