On Zeke’s 2007 EP Lords of the Highway, the Seattle punk ‘n’ roll group kills it on the opening number as it dares set the tone with a cover of a cover. Though “Die When You Die” was originally written and recorded by Detroit proto-punk pioneers Destroy All Monsters in 1978 (as "You're Gonna Die"), the late G.G. Allin recorded a thrash-punk rendition in 1986 with all-new verse lyrics and renamed it. It's that version covered here, with a similarly feral ferocity. “Haybailer” follows, with punch-throwing rhythms and nonstop guitar distortion as frontman Blind Marky Felchtone screams with a guttural growl. “Kings and Queens” simmers down to bring out sludgy hard rock akin to early Melvins recordings. But it’s not until the title track explodes that Zeke unleashes the darker proto-metal that caught the ear of Matt Pike before poaching the band’s former bass player Jeff Matz for High on Fire.
