Half Baked

Half Baked

Coming out of East Oakland, Yukmouth has a long and storied history of rapping about greenery. His breakthrough hit was back in 1995 when he was half of The Luniz; their undeniably classic smash hit was "I Got 5 on It." In the years following, he launched a successful solo career, with albums including Thug Lord: The New Testament, Godzilla, and The West Coast Don. He also started his own label (Smoke-A-Lot Records), released a bunch of street-centric DVDs, and has beefed with numerous other rappers, including Too $hort, G Unit, Afroman, and his old partner Numskull. On Half Baked, he rolls up 20 tracks exclusively about his favorite plant. He shares the mic with a gigantic collection of younger Bay Area emcees, including Lee Majors, Beeda Weeda, Philthy Rich, and Blanco, plus older Gs such as B-Legit, Dru Down, Daz Dillinger, Cellski, and Jayo Felony. While the subject matter is pretty one-dimensional, few cover it better than Yuk, especially on anthems like "Put 1 in the Air," "A Million Miles Away," and "Smell It on Me."
