When Kold AF (aka Anino Oritsesan) emerged in 2022 with her two-pack single, “Kold Szn”, the soul-baring singer shed her mystery, unfurling a sonic blueprint of alluring vocals buoyed by intense, earnest vulnerability. Deploying lovelorn crooning on the standout “Blues,” Kold AF basked in sweet pockets where she erupts in emotion, flexing her range in dancehall with a buoyant tone. On KOLLIDE, her follow-up, the singer’s versatility is amplified by production by French producer BGRZ. Boosted with a loping guitar melody and pulsing drums, opener “Broken” captures a fragile Kold AF pouring out her emotions about the ending of a relationship. Openness is Kold AF’s superpower but here, her confessions are bolstered by some seriously brilliant beatmaking. On “Chess & Checkers,” her whispery, heart-rending delivery is transformed by warped dubstep into a transatlantic anthem, while “Nobody 2 Somebody” is a reflective number that finds the singer praying for a change in fortune. The final two tracks are when Kold AF’s chilly, expressive delivery takes a new turn, floating on the shapeshifting “Tension” with a crisp flow and a patois touch. On the dreamy climax, “Two Man Ting,” a mellowed Kold AF becomes more mature and thoughtful, bringing an observant lens to the issues plaguing her relationship, whipping up a nostalgic mood on the ’90s-influenced R&B production.
