40 Songs, 1 Hour 55 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

A longstanding R&B superstar, Brian McKnight released his first album back in 1992, and has been cranking them out, while topping the charts and racking up numerous awards ever since. Just Me is his fourteenth solo record, and finds the multi-instrumentalist crooner in fine form, with a double-length, 40-track collection broken into two parts. The first set is ten brand-new studio joints (check out "Temptation" featuring his son Brian McKnight Jr. and the piano-laced "Just Lemme Know"), while the second half features many of his classic hits, recorded live at the Avalon in Los Angeles. Loyal fans will be psyched for signature singles like "Anytime," "Back At One," and "Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda," plus some great cover versions of MJ's "Rock With You, Stevie's "Overjoyed," and a rousing version of "Gonna Fly Now," the theme from Rocky.

From Start To Finish...

Brian is consistently "silky and chocolatey smooth" from start to finish....good to the very last drop!

Superior Vocalist, Throwback Style

Brian McNight's album gets five stars from me for one simple reason...the song "Fall 5.0."

Beautifully written with wonderful changes and amazing harmony and vocals (yes, the Autotune on this is intentional as an effect, a great singer like Brian doesn't need it, he CHOSE it, on this, for effect). A haunting song and performance.

The album doesn't always live up to what "Fall" promises though, and seems to search around a lot for a solid identity. With a voice this good it's all enjoyable, but Brian needs direction and a strong producer...some of the tunes are there while the production is on the thin ..."less than bigtime" side. This is a guy obviously influenced by Stevie Wonder but taking a smoother approach...it's all good and sometimes it's great. Will be interesting to see where Brian goes after this one.
