Ivory represents the evolution of the Kiwi singer/songwriter from ingénue to assertive boss. Wigmore has a lot on her mind—she confidently purges the bad times and testifies for respect and truth. “Odeum” bravely confronts uneasy realities and “Cabrona” and “Girl Gang” are proud sisterhood anthems. Her commanding voice is a tasty, intoxicating rock 'n' soul cocktail. The music is as sharp and muscular as Wigmore’s voice; “Beatnik Trip” rides a vintage funk beat and “Hard Luck” has a piano line that DRAM would approve of.
