Listening to Ray Barretto's Indestructible is like being swept away by syncopated percussion, whisking us to the heart of '70s Spanish Harlem. With Barretto as bandleader, hip-swinging congas, bongos, and timbales underscore these sweet, Spanish-language love songs. Lead vocalist Tito Allen's honeyed tones turn the rosy "Yo Tengo un Amor" and the swinging "Llanto de Cocodrilo" into sidewalk serenades for a warm August night. Closing out the set, the title track climaxes in a feel-good jam session.
