Loading its ranks with more than a dozen stellar musicians, La Séptima Banda could easily overdo it, getting lost in fussy arrangements and empty flash. Adding just enough in the way of gorgeous filigree, the prolific ensemble is undeniably tight but unabashedly romantic on Micha y Micha, pairing creamy vocal harmonies with crackling rhythms. The weeping horns add another layer of anguish to the already intense “La Bruta,” the galloping drums propel “Vida Recia” across a series of joyous peaks, and only the hardest of hearts could resist the tender falsetto that animates “Mis Ultimas Palabras.”
