Beautiful Recreations

I love the variety in these adaptations. Its great to have an album full of such different sounds that are still true to the originals.

Overdue but Incomplete

One of the great songwriters of our time, like Bob Dylan and Lou Reed and Leonard Cohen in their time, can't sing for jack. Should've just joined a band with a singer instead of having the hubris to maul his awesome creations. So I'm glad this exists. It works best with "Color of Your Cheeks" and "Jenny." Too many of these preserve the original vocal notes and intonation, though. When Aretha sang Cohen, she didn't mimic him, she interpreted him so the vocals were fixed. And some of these just replace the original bad singer with a different bad singer. "The Best Ever Death Metal Band Out of Denton" is the most pointless example; it's barely distinguishable from the original, which is a shame as that's my favorite Mt. Goats song. Still, I'm very happy with "Color in Your Cheeks" and "Jenny."
