Once a multi-instrumentalist duo (Alex Farrell-Davey and Allister Meffan), the Auckland indie band has added drummer Jayden Lee and bassist Marika Hodgson to the lineup, a move that’s allowed them to fully explore their potential. Their debut album features piano-driven compositions like “If You Were Here,” “Time & Money,” “Back In Town,” “I’m Still Waiting,” and “Home,” which bring to mind the open-road grandeur and emotional power of Keane or Travis. The mood shifts on “Love Hurts Heavy” and “Too Strung Up,” showing fluency in Nashville country, while “Stone Cold” stirs Hammond organ and Memphis-style horns into the mix. Sometimes, it’s OK to be all things to all people.
