Fast Times at Ridgemont High (Music from the Motion Picture)
Various Artists
When Cameron Crowe and Amy Heckerling made Fast Times at Ridgemont High in 1982, their teen subjects were still grooving to vestiges of the ’70s, especially the Southern California soft-rock sounds of Poco, Jackson Browne, and the Eagles (four of whom contribute solo cuts to the film’s soundtrack). You can feel a new decade coalescing in Sammy Hagar’s pop-metal and Oingo Boingo’s wacky party rock, but no group personifies the movie’s pleasures better than the Go-Go’s, whose “Speeding” offers the perfect dose of teenage fizz.
