It's Flamin' Groovy!

The Flamin’ Groovies successfully toured Japan, Australia, the U.K., and the U.S. in 2013 and began work on a new studio album, but that entire reunion was triggered by Groovies’ current frontman, Chris Wilson, inviting founder Cyril Jordan and George Alexander to help record this album. Ex-Groovies Roy Loney, Mike Wilhelm, and James Ferrell and Procol Harum organist Matthew Fisher also make guest appearances. Jordan provides the originals “She Satisfies” and “Heart in Her Hand,” which, true to the band’s influences, capture a Rolling Stones vibe right down to the open-tuned Keith Richards–styled guitar chords (ditto, “Down to the Wire”). Roy Loney threw in the early Groovies barroom rock of “Gamblin’ Man.” The nods to Groovie-dom don’t stop there. “All the Action” merges “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” with a few lyric quips from “Shake Some Action," while “Shake That Feeling” jangles as the Wilson-era group often would. Blues-rock blares through “Bad Dreams.” Folk/country-rock harmonies pop up for “Semaphore Signals.” As can be expected from a rock ’n’ roll lifer, It’s Flamin’ Groovy! explores all the little corners of rock ’n’ roll.
