Benny Dayal is well-known for his playback career and film collaborations but for Funk Katcheri, the debut EP from his hard-touring band Funktuation, the Tamil music vet tips his hat to US soul influences like Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder. On "Oora Paaru" he ladles playful vocals over shimmering funk charm, while “Poovey" is a boogie cut with a dizzying lead synth line. The group expand their horizons with electronic sounds ("Azha Poraa"), rapid-fire horns ("Romba Bad Boys” with The Hornflakes) and club bangers ("Podrom Paadrom Killikrom”), the latter a homage to Tamil pop culture.
