“My goal was to bring the fire and get you pumped up for your workout,” Steve Aoki tells Apple Music about his customized running mix. “My intention was to create a high-energy mix that would push you to go harder, faster, and stronger than ever.” The Dim Mak label boss—who himself does a mix of HIIT, hiking, boxing, and running—says that when it comes to workout mixes, structure is everything. “I start off with some high-intensity bangers to get the blood pumping, and then gradually increase the energy level until we hit the climax,” he says. “I spend a lot of time curating my own workout playlists, carefully selecting tracks that will help me achieve my fitness goals and keep me motivated. I truly believe that [the right music] can make all the difference.” His own track “Older,” a team-up with Jimmie Allen and Dixie, is one of his favorites. “Working with them was a true collaboration of our individual strengths and resulted in a beautiful fusion of styles and sounds,” he says. “It's a testament to the power of teamwork and the magic that can happen when we come together.”
