It’s always rewarding to witness a close creative bond, and Aotearoa New Zealand brothers Henry and Pierre Beasley have fostered one that’s even closer than most. Not only are both multi-instrumentalists and producers for their alt-pop collaboration as Balu Brigada, but they also share singing and songwriting duties. That artistic intimacy is all over their Find a Way EP, right down to the subtle way the six songs shift between approaches. Opener “Designer” makes smooth R&B overtures that culminate in the earnest refrain “Baby, just keep on loving me like you do” before the duo lock into Strokes-esque indie rock on “2good.” “I Think You’ll Be Fine” has all the frisky velocity of Phoenix, while closing title track is funky to the point of spontaneous danceability, though still with those incisive guitar lines. It’s all so confident and streamlined that it can be easy to forget just how much stylistic ground the Beasleys are covering here.
