Even with two discs, not all of Tim McGraw's radio chart-toppers could fit in this still-generous 24-track offering. Number One Hits is sequenced non-chronologically, but the songs play with the cohesive flow of a proper album—or in this case, a double album. The emotionally heavy power ballad "Live Like You Were Dying" sets the tone, with a riveting narrative crooned in his warm tenor over orchestrally arranged country-pop. But it’s the catchy, uplifting, and anthemic chorus here that serves as a great reminder that McGraw has scored at least one chart-busting hit each year since 1994. Fans of his early recordings are sure to get nostalgic over his early hits, like the similarly sentimental “Don’t Take the Girl” and the infectious, honky-tonkin’ line-dance rocker "I Like It, I Love It" from his 1995 album All I Want. “It’s Your Love,” McGraw’s heartfelt duet with his wife, Faith Hill, is easily the most romantic song here. The hard-driving “Felt Good on My Lips” provides the essential new cut.
