Everything Was Green - EP

Alt-R&B artist Forest Claudette sounds wise beyond their years on their second proper EP. Rather than taking anything for granted, they call out their personal luck on “Hi Vis Teeth” before lamenting the toll of taking lives on “Violence.” Set to delicate strands of acoustic guitar before giving way to burnished strings, the latter evokes the elegiac soul of What’s Going On-era Marvin Gaye. Other tracks are more playful, with the openly sultry “Mess Around” tapping Atlanta rap duo EARTHGANG. Named for their forested upbringing in Australia’s Dandenong Ranges, Claudette here reinforces their place as a rising star with several distinct facets on display.
