Shedding some of the gauzy atmospherics of their debut, Oh Inhuman Spectacle, the Perth trio are more muscular on this impressively disparate follow-up. Elastic basslines instil funk into “Ubu”’s skewed glam rock and the gothic synth-pop of “L’heure des sorcières”. Jake Webb’s haunted vocal benefit from these less-cloistered surroundings, and the dark romance of a lyric like “Listen for me in a very beautiful car accident/Now we’re mangled up together/Righteous!” sears through “No. 28”’s twisting, scraping guitars.
