On this album of love songs, the Ramones scaled Phil Spector’s iconic wall of sound with fascinating results. “I’m Affected” keeps the hard-charging guitars of their earlier work but serves as a romantic ode to a muse. “Baby, I Love You” has the slow-strutting drums and swelling strings of a ‘50s ballad while Joey Ramone croons about a lover and the other Ramones add boy-band backing vocals. This album manages to be complex while keeping the band’s signature simplicity.
