A los Amigos

A los Amigos

While Argentinan duo El Zar’s 2016 debut, Círculos, was full of stylish electro-pop hooks, it still felt like a do-it-yourself project from a pair of bedroom producers. But after touring hard with an expanded lineup, Facundo Castaño Montoya and Pablo Gimenez have fortified their celestial wall-of-sound attack. It’s that grand scale that makes A los Amigos more than just another synth-heavy dose of ’80s nostalgia, whether they’re ripping through heroic guitar riffs on “El Túnel” or indulging in arena-sized drama (and soaring keyboards) on the New Wave ballad “Dejarte Estar.”
