Having finally abandoned his taste for glossy Latin pop, swaggering troubadour Roberto Tapia fills Esto Es Sólo El Comienzo with frenzied banda anthems, throwing in a few soulful norteño ballads for good measure. Whatever the style, Tapia remains a singularly gripping performer. He brings all of his famed onstage energy to brass-driven explosions like "Quisiera Gritar Que Te Quiero," letting his forceful shout push the album to its many electrifying peaks, but he's somehow just as intense when things get tender on "Tus Besos Nunca Fueron Para Mi."
