El Diablo Mayor

El Diablo Mayor

Mexican banda ensemble La Jerez are wildly prolific—and also just plain wild. Despite being active since the ’80s, they finally harnessed their pedal-to-the-floor energy in the 2000s, kicking off a ceaseless run of albums. As usual, the pace of El Diablo Mayor is relentless, whether they’re out to tear the roof off the club on “Tonta Niña” or ripping through cumbia at nearly punk-rock speed on “Chaparrita.” While they can flex their elegant chops when needed, the men of La Jerez are still more interested in partying, whipping up sweaty fun with their big-band sound.
