Early Hours (DJ Mix)

Early Hours can mean a few different things: Are you winding down after being up all night, or are you just rising to meet the sun? For Allie DeCastris, the Chicago DJ and producer known as Azzecca, the goal was less about soundtracking a certain window of time and more about capturing a mood—specifically, she says, the “sultry, psychedelic vibes” she loves. “I started this set late at night while drinking bedtime tea and finished it early in the morning while drinking coffee, just to see where my two moods took me,” she tells Apple Music. “I’ve been really into cosmic sounds lately, so that’s a strong theme in the mix.” Among her favorite tracks: Bicep’s “Celeste,” which she calls “always a go-to,” a song that encompasses “hopeful sadness,” and “Mushrooms (Salt City Orchestra Out There Mix)” by Marshall Jefferson and Noosa Heads. It was a crucial inclusion, she says, “not only because of our Chicago connection, but because of the context of the track. It's trippy and vibe-y and chill and perfect.”
