Disraeli Gears, Cream’s second album, is where their songwriting hits a supernatural patch. There’s a witchy funk to songs like “Strange Brew” and “Outside Woman Blues,” while the band’s uncanny power-trio interplay comes to the fore on the dazzling (and very 1967) freak rock of “SWLABR” and the mystical folk pop of “Dance the Night Away.” The darkest incantations are saved for “Sunshine of Your Love,” where one of hard rock’s most demonic riffs is used with lascivious intent.
