Bugged Out

Bugged Out

A fast-rising San Francisco rapper, Roach Gigz has been grinding for a few years now and has a huge following in the Bay. In 2010, he dropped the well-received mixtape Roachy Balboa (hosted by DJ Racks) and started getting airplay on local favorite KMEL. He followed that up with Roachy Balboa 2 and also showed love for then–World Series champs the San Francisco Giants on his single "Can I Rap (aka Giants Win)." Bugged Out is his proper debut album, which finds him giving respect to area legends like Too $hort and Mac Dre while also shouting out his Goomba crew and breaking down goofy tales of intense intoxication and serious partying. Clearly influenced by Eminem, he rocks a super-lyrical style densely packed with quotable wordplay and chuckle-inducing metaphors. Production-wise, it's heavy on the Bay's signature slap, with thunderous bass bumps, bright clap beats, and no shortage of trippy synths. Simultaneously catchy, funny, and freaky, this aptly titled album is a great introduction to Bugz and should definitely help blow him up outside of Cali.
