Diamond Rugs

Diamond Rugs

Starting with Deer Tick's John McCauley and fleshing out with that band's Robbie Crowell, Black Lips' Ian Saint Pe, Los Lobos' Steve Berlin, Dead Confederate's Hardy Morris, and Six Finger Satellite's Bryan Dufresne, Diamond Rugs are a "supergroup" that closely reflect Deer Tick's reckless aesthetic. The Replacements, The Rolling Stones, The Faces, and Bruce Springsteen are notable and noticeable reference points, as McCauley sings in his most damaged Paul Westerbergian growl for the horns and guitar of "Call Girl Blues." "Gimme a Beer" further establishes the group's inebriated schematic. "Out on My Own" dials down the anarchy for a slightly more reflective tone, while "Country Mile" teases with a subdued moan from Hardy Morris before jacking up the amps for more ramshackle raunch 'n' roll. "Totally Lonely" spins off Roy Orbison's "Only the Lonely" for its own nocturnal confession. Each member at the mic sounds like he's downed a six-pack before the session. If you like plenty of chaos in your rock 'n' roll, here's a place to get it.
