Dead Fingers (feat. Taylor Hollingsworth)

Dead Fingers is the Alabama duo of Taylor Hollingsworth (once of Conor Oberst's Mystic Valley Band) and Kate Taylor (who's accompanied her sister Maria Taylor of Azure Ray). They recently married and recorded this debut album with producer Bruce Watson, who’s worked with Junior Kimbrough and AA Bondy. The album has a simple joy in its unforced melodies and straightforward arrangements. Hollingsworth is a gifted songwriter whose love of classic folk and country music makes the songs ring true with a familiarity that evokes touches of John Prine, Bob Dylan, and countless country singers. "4 Stone Coaches" steals a snatch from "Blowin' in the Wind" before wandering down its own path. "Closet Full of Bones" features harmonies that are kept raw and affecting. "Against the River" kicks up a little rock 'n' roll dust. "Never Be My Man" flirts with the blues. Though their pedigree is with the indie-folk crowd, Dead Fingers deserve to make an impression with broader folk and country audiences who appreciate a love of southern harmonies.
