David Berkeley deserves to be heard. He’s spent the past decade traveling through the United States and Europe, bringing his stunning songs to the people. This live recording at the legendary Maxwell’s in Hoboken, NJ, a small club across the Hudson River from Manhattan that has hosted everyone from Nirvana to Elliot Smith to Steve Earle to Sonic Youth, is a rough-and-tumble affair with an audio quality that’s close to an audience tape. But Berkeley is in fine voice and he brings great empathy to some of his best-known tracks (“Jefferson,” “Boxes”).
