DALI DALI

DALI DALI

On Disc 1 of DALI DALI, the singer reaches into the depths of his soul for heartfelt lyrics concerning romantic relationships, accompanied by mellow ’piano production. Nkosazana Daughter contributes ethereal vocals on the sultry “Seduce Me,” while “Igunana” pairs Daliwonga’s effortless vocals with Mas Musiq’s airy, “private school” amapiano instrumental. The DJ Maphorisa-produced “Unodoli” is breezy, new-age Afro-soul, while “Abangani Bakho”—featuring pioneering amapiano singer Sha Sha and produced by Tyler ICU and Herc Cut The Lights—is built on sensual acoustic guitar licks by Xolani Guitars. It’s Sunday “chillas” music throughout on Disc 1. Disc 1’s “Relokeleng” was built for the dance floor, but it’s on Disc 2 where Daliwonga truly showcases his groovist side, trading the dilated melodies for more wordy and abrupt cadences that demand less subtle dance moves. Daliwonga’s defining falsetto dances over bass-heavy amapiano beats on bacardi bangers “VurVai,” “Bana Ba,” and “Mratata.” The Kabza De Small- and Da Muziqal Chef-produced “Cellular,” where he makes it clear he’s emotionally unavailable to a woman who seems in love with him, is a minimalist thumper dominated by Daliwonga’s animated delivery.
