13 Songs, 45 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

On their sixth album, the husband-and-wife duo of Peaking Lights bring their sound into sharp focus. Whereas their earlier material, including the breakout Lucifer, was comprised of lengthy psychedelic dub workouts, the songs on Cosmic Logic are pared down to pop length, with crisper production that doesn’t blanket the instruments in a fog of reverb. From the molasses dub of "Breakdown" to the chirpy house of "Eyes to Sea," the group explores a wide array of tempos and textures, the songs nodding to '80s synth pop as disco. "Hypnotic Hustle" doubles as a pulsing highlight as well as an apt subtitle for the album.
