Coolie No. 1 (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Coolie No. 1 (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Like its parent film remake, Coolie No. 1’s soundtrack recreates the madcap energy of its 1995 source material. “Teri Bhabhi” and “Mummykassam” have the rousing choruses and pulsating percussion characteristic of Bollywood hits from the Nineties—and the latter even features Udit Narayan, who dominated the era’s playback singing scene. The title track goes back even further to mine the jazzy doo-wop of the ’50s. More modern sounds are represented in the romantic duet “Tere Siva” but it, too, is filtered through the recent, pleasing nostalgia of ’00s dance-pop.
