With Bach at its heart, harpsichordist Tamar Halperin and friends’ recording strides the line between classical album and ambient soundtrack, between the strong foundations of the 18th century and our own fragile, shifting age. Hear how the largo from Bach’s Violin Sonata no. 6 elides into dreamlike sequences where snatches of Bach’s music are filtered and mutated, before we’re carried safely to the shores of the adagio from Sonata no. 3. These freewheeling transitions and manipulations occur throughout BachSpace, as if the modern world is not just responding to Bach, but reaching out to touch him.
